An historic Western Australian Cabernet, iIt was the first red wine produced in Margaret River and has been made every year since 1972.
It expresses the distinct regional profile of Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon and the site characters it takes from the Vasse Felix vineyards, with a focus on the Wilyabrup sub-region..
Fragrant and pure cabernet aromas with blackcurrant and blueberry fruit, floral violet notes and a subtle twig, Australian bush undertones. The dark fruit is complimented with light vanilla and mocha, hinting at the fine oak.
The palate is classic and youthful with rich blackcurrant fruit weight, cherry pip freshness and a spectrum of fine to more rustic gravelly tannins. A berry coulis tang runs through the length of the palate before a dry, savoury finish of exceptional poise and persistence. It drinks beautifully now, but will reward cellaring over the next 8-10 years.
