93 POINTS
"Very good colour for the blend; the three varieties were co-fermented and the result is a richly fruited medium-bodied palate with good structure to back up the fruit. from bush-pruned , dry grown vines. Screwcap. 93 points" James Halliday's Australian Wine CompanionMSG is good for You!
A classic Barossa blend from maestro Bob McLean. His vineyard, perched high in the hills above the Barossa Valley and right next to the Eden Valley border, produces rich fruit with a finesse that comes from the altitude of the vineyard.
The three Barossa siblings, Mataro, Shiraz and Grenache were picked and co-fermented to maximise the earthy flavours of the vineyard. Like many wines bottles under screw cap to ensure freshness, the real vibrancy is released when decanted. This wine is just the "second edition" fruits of Bob's labour. They are true descriptions of the soil and identify the concentration of colour and depth of flavors we are to experience from this very special vineyard for many generations to come.

GOLD MEDAL (Best in Class) International Wine & Spirit Competition 2009
" Tim continues his incredible ascent to the pantheon of great Aussie winemakers (where they presumably drink awesome wines all day and night!), albeit with wines that everyone can afford and with uncharacteristic stealth, modesty and integrity. A big man, 'Bonecrusher' Adams is surprisingly subtle and contemplative and this is a clue to the sheer brilliance behind his staggeringly delicious wines. The Fergus is a complex blend of Grenache, Cabernet, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo and Malbec and it sees only old oak hogsheads for twelve months, which allows the fruit to dominate the end wine and not raw, unattractive oak unlike many of his neighbours' wines. It is drinking perfectly now, but it will mature for a decade. It is succulent and plush and yet complex and intricate at the same time. For around a tenner, you will be gob-smacked at the quality on offer here. " Matthew Jukes
"Rich, concentrated mouth entry, grabs the attention immediately with quite surprising suppleness. Rich and fleshy, with a funky dark side. Be careful, this is so seductive that it could be termed entrapment!"
International Wine & Spirit Competition 2009

The fourteenth release of ‘The Fergus’, named after Tim's neighbour who was good enough to sell Tim his grenache grapes in the vintage of 1993 during a desperate shortage of shiraz and cabernet. The wine has lifted red berry aromas and flavours, complexed by grenache spiciness and given extra back palate astringency by the blending of other red varieties. It is a mouth-filling wine that may be kept for up to 10 years, but will go nicely with duck, turkey, lamb and gamey meats any time soon.
Grenache grapes were crushed on to fermented and drained skins of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Malbec. Fermentation on skins lasted one week. The tanks were then topped and closed for two weeks prior to pressing the skins. The wines were then racked several times before filtration and transferred to old American oak. They remained in oak until blending, fining, filtration and bottling.

*** This is a 6 bottle case - to make up the minimum order of 12 bottles, you will need to add another case of wine (6s or 12s) to your order.***

This is an outstanding vintage of this "GSM". In the Barossa, there are years when Shiraz is king and years when Mourvedre and Grenache thrive. 2001 was such a year for the Mourvedre and Grenache - in this vintage they make up 83% of the blend. The result is a finer, fresher and fruitier wine, with the softness of the Grenache coming right through on the generous palate. Great rhone-style blend from the Barossa's best!
