""Has a strong varietal black fruit base (expected) and an overlay of dark chocolate (unexpected); the overall mouthfeel and balance is good, the tannin structure especially so. Screwcap. 93 points." (James Halliday;s Australian Wine Companion)
Fresh, clean, berry notes with a slight hint of mint on the bouquet lead through to a a dramatic whirlpool of rich Cabernet flavours - blackcurrants, cassis together with nuances of plums, violets and leather. The length and persistence of the flavours is remarkable, aided by superfine tannins, leading into a finish that is mouthwatering good. A great Barossa Cabernet that will age superbly.

"Very good colour for the blend; the three varieties were co-fermented and the result is a richly fruited medium-bodied palate with good structure to back up the fruit. from bush-pruned , dry grown vines. Screwcap. 93 points" James Halliday's Australian Wine CompanionMSG is good for You!
A classic Barossa blend from maestro Bob McLean. His vineyard, perched high in the hills above the Barossa Valley and right next to the Eden Valley border, produces rich fruit with a finesse that comes from the altitude of the vineyard.
The three Barossa siblings, Mataro, Shiraz and Grenache were picked and co-fermented to maximise the earthy flavours of the vineyard. Like many wines bottles under screw cap to ensure freshness, the real vibrancy is released when decanted. This wine is just the "second edition" fruits of Bob's labour. They are true descriptions of the soil and identify the concentration of colour and depth of flavors we are to experience from this very special vineyard for many generations to come.

Oz Clarke's 250 Best Wines 2008
"Bob McLean is a big, beefy fellow, generous and jovial, and I thought this Chardonnay would reflect his big, bluff style. But Bob is also a keen observer of the tides that sweep wine styles back and forth, and he knows that we like our Chardonnays a little more subtle nowadays. So, despite the fruit coming from Kalimna this is gentle, scented with peach blossom, flavoured with apple and melon flesh. I'd almost say it was feminine, but Bob knows where I live. He'd never let me get away with it."
Oz Clarke
The fruit for this wine was sourced from a single vineyard in the Kalimna region of the Barossa Valley. The grapes were hand picked, with only the best fruit selected. After crushing, and a slow cool fermentation, the lees were added back and continually stirred in order to build structure and mouth feel. This is a beautifully balanced, fruit charged wine that is drinking superbly.

THE STORY
Bob McLean is the man who made Barossa Valley winery St. Hallett famous.
Since the takeover of St. Hallett by brewing giant Lion Nathan, Bob has been quietly working on his new project based around his family's property situated right on the border of the Barossa and Eden Valleys winegrowing regions. Here he has planted Reisling, Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre
Initially, he purchased grapes from Barossa growers he had known over the years: his first releases won Gold and Silver medals in the International WINE Challenge.

2004 saw the release of the McLean's Farm Shiraz Cabernet, sourced from a single vineyard, whose special position produces grapes of exceptional richness. It was rated at 41/2 Stars (92points) in James Halliday's Wine Guide.

2005 saw the first release of the Eden Valley Riesling which quickly sold out. The 2006 McLean's Farm Eden Valley Riesling was awarded Five Stars (94 points) in the same James Hallday Guide, with McLean's Farm earning a Five Star rating.

Things at McLean's Farm are beginning to move ahead quite rapidly!
