Nebbiolo

The 2005 JOSEPH Nebbiolo displays the ethereal power and fascinating contrasts that are the hallmark of this most noble variety.
Joe Grilli planted a small patch on our Clarendon vineyard nine years ago, confident that the
site would suit the variety. The Clarendon vineyard is rocky and steep. The soil is predominately shale stone. The vineyard site starts at 220 metres above sea level and rises sharply to 300 metres at its highest point. The
stone and altitude, combined with ther intense viticulture regime results in a small crop of evenly ripened grapes. Only 220 cases of this wine are produced.
The flavours and palate structure of Nebbiolo are
unique - this wine expresses the contrasts which make this variety so fascinating. The characters have a soft feminine charm, while the legendary dry tannins have a commanding feel.
Left to open up in a big glass, the wine reveals heady perfumes of roses, violets and turkish delight - the palate follows on with undercurrents of layered tar and dried spice.
