BEST OTHER REDS AND BLENDS
The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2007

"For sheer gluggability and hedonistic pleasure we loved this wine. Young it may be; straightforward it may be; unwooded, too; but it’s an object lesson in how to produce a delicious fruit-driven young red."
The Times Top 100 Best Summer Wines
"Spain's plummy tempranillo grape is a terrific new addition to Australia¹s run of red wines, delivering some wonderful flavours and fruit. This elegant, scented, rose and blackcurrant pastille-licked red, with plenty of bright vibrant fruit is a case in point." Jane MacQuitty
This is a delicious, unwooded expression of the Tempranillo variety grown at Pondalowie Vineyards at Bridgewater on Loddon, near Bendigo in Victoria.
Aromas of cherries, raspberry, cola, leafy tobacco and mineral characters precede a palate rich with soft red berry, cherry fruits and earthiness. Although unwooded, it is medium bodied and has natural, fresh chalky tannins and great length. Serve this wine slightly chilled on a hot summers day or enjoy anytime with tapas.
Dominic Morris, winemaker at Pondalowie also "moonlights" as winemaker at the Qinta do Crasto in Portugal. This wine is named ‘MT’ as a tribute to the expression ‘Minha Terra’, a term used by Quinta do Crasto winery workers when describing the place that is their home or where they come from.

*** This is a 6 bottle case - to make up the minimum order of 12 bottles, you will need to add another case of wine (6s or 12s) to your order.***

Very ripe fruit, moving in to a kirsch liqueur bouquet, sweet and supple fruit on the palate, with a dry, slightly dusty finish. 90 points."

Australia‘s TOP 100 Wines, Philip White, The Adelaide Advertiser 93 points
"Take that juicy, sweet, concentrated cool climate Shiraz from Pondalowie‘s Shiraz Viognier, replace the viognier with elegant, leafy Cabernet, then add the polished Spanish leather and slightly feral tannins of the Tempranillo, and you get this profound sleeper for a quite boisterous food. You will do best if you let it assimilate a while in a good cellar, but it would be fine right now with spaghetti in a tomato sauce with black olives."

A spin on the traditional Australian blend of Shiraz and Cabernet with the inclusion of Tempranillo, this wine is created by harvesting the three varieties at the same time then co-fermenting them. The combination is fascinating and very drinkable! Lifted aromas of dark cherries and raspberries, cinnamon, nutmeg and subtle toasty oak intensify on the soft, rounded palate that is in great balance with its lingering finish.

Pondalowie Vineyards

THE STORY
Dominic and Krystina Morris are a young winemaking couple with a passion for making interesting, premium red wines. They established two vineyards at Bridgewater on Loddon, 40km North West of Bendigo in Central Victoria. The 10 acre property owned by Dominic’s parents was planted in 1996 using cuttings of Shiraz, Cabernet and Malbec which had been propagated from 30 to 100 year old non-clonal vineyards known to be producing exceptional fruit. The grapes from this vineyard now contribute the principal components of their Shiraz Viognier and Cabernet Malbec wines.

In 1997 they began planting their own 20 acre property using the best clones available of Shiraz, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier. The grapes from this vineyard produce the Shiraz and Vineyard Blend wines, contribute Viognier to the Shiraz Viognier blend and of course produce the Tempranillo wines; the unwooded MT and, if the vintage conditions are suitable, the Special Release Tempranillo.
