2007 Primo Estate Shale Stone Shiraz 12x75 15.5%

Price: £180.00

Quantity:

This 100% Shiraz is made from fruit grown on two classic McLaren Vale vineyards. The classic richness of the McMurtrie Rd vineyard in the heart of the district is evident in this wine. However, it is the perfume and mineral texture of the Shiraz growing in the shale stone of Joe & Dina's Clarendon vineyard that sets this wine apart. This textural component brings balance and depth to the layered fruit and spice in this wine.
The wine has the classic plum and spice varietal characters of Shiraz, augmented by an 18 month stay in French and American oak barriques. It is both delicious and savoury. It's delicious drinking now or cellar for 8+ years.

'Lovely complex nose of black fruit, basil and tobacco. Dense, chewy, rich and fruit-driven palate. Good structure, sweet tannins and long finish.'
The fifth vintage of JOSEPH Angel Gully Shiraz, 2007 was a classic dry vintage which yielded just one tonne per acre of pristine, concentrated fruit. Angel Gully's combination of cool evenings, deep shale stone soils and naturally low yields imparts spicy, peppery notes, concentrated dark fruit characters and a savory minerality on the palate. A small portion of the fruit was air dried after picking to provide an additional degree of complexity.
The hand picked fruit was crushed directly into traditional open-topped fermenters then manually pumped-over. The open-topped fermenters are at the heart of the JOSEPH red wine style. Joe Grilli, Primo Estate's owner and winemaker, says: 'The soul of a red wine is released where air meets the fermenting skins'. The final 18 month aging in oak used a combination of new and aged barriques from France and America.

"Dense purple-red; medium to full bodied; a rich round and supple array of predominately black fruits; fine, ripe tannins; subtle oak. Drink 2013."
Intense aromas of blood plums, blackberries and wild forest fruits with toasty vanillin, cedar and cigar-box oak derived from the wine’s maturation in French and American oak hogsheads. The palate is rich and complex with lovely integration between the intense dark fruit flavours and fine-grained oak. This wine would complement a char-grilled Porterhouse steak, accompanied by caramalised onions and roast potatoes. Easily enjoyed now but will develop and age gracefully over the next 10 years.

"Fresh, fruity, with a note of green pepper. With a lovely freshness on the palate, spicy notes, and a real lift, this is really mouthwatering on the finish.
International Wine Challenge 2008

Blending fruit from a range of local vineyards has produced a wine with both regional and varietal definition. The wine shows bright magenta colour and aromas of red berry conserve and spice, enhanced by the complexity gained from 12 months American oak maturation. The palate is full and soft in the front and middle, with the flavour of small berry fruit again the oak complementing the fruit. The finish is medium to firm, with tannins coming from both fruit and oak. The wine has not been cold stabilised and so may form a harmless crystalline deposit in the bottle, necessitating decanting before serving. This wine has power and finesse, making it both approachable now and worth keeping for up to 10 years under good cellaring conditions.

Price: £156.00

""Brilliant, old-vine Shiraz with masses of minty, spicy, plummy, oak-saturated power." Tim Atkin (The Observer)

The Aberfeldy vineyard is a unique site - friable red loam over limestone nestled at the bottom of the eastern most hills of the Clare Valley, just 5 km south east of the township of Clare. When the Birks family of Wendouree fame settled the area they planted this site with Shiraz in 1904. Many of these vines remain and those which have perished have been replaced with rootlings of the same clones. The cropping level in the vineyard is never more than 1.5 tonnes per acre, producing grapes with intense colour, flavour and tannins. This fruit is the backbone of ‘Aberfeldy’ Shiraz.
The wine has vibrant magenta colour with aromatics of cherry, plum, dark berries and chocolate complemented by the oak derived characters of clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. The palate is full bodied with dark berry conserve flavours and balanced oak, tannin and acidity. The wine has persistent sweet fruit and oak aftertaste, with power and great finesse, and will reward patient cellaring.

2001 Bowen Estate Coonawarra Shiraz 12x75 13.5%

2001 Bowen Estate Coonawarra Shiraz 12x75 13.5%

Price: £157.00

Quantity:

"Doug Bowen makes some of the most elegant wines in Australia. This finely crafted, scented, complex, age-worthy Shiraz disproves the theory that Coonawarra is better suited to Bordeaux varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon." Tim Atkin (The Observer)
Bowen Estate's Shiraz is hand pruned and trellised with the 'hanging cane' method. This allows the grapes to utilize the sunshine to obtain optimum ripeness and flavour. The grapes are machine harvested, crushed and fermented on skins for 5 days. Approximately one third of the wine is barrel fermented in new wood each year. After racking, the balance of the wine is put into American oak barriques (225 litres) for maturation for about 20 months. The wine is then removed from the barrels, blended and bottled.
A lovely bright opulent wine with seductive sweet fruit, showing ripe spicy Shiraz flavours with a matching background of supple oak characters. The palate is medium bodied, well-rounded, finishing with soft tannins. This wine is made in the classic Coonawarra Shiraz style. The vintage of 2001 was characterised by wines that are fruit driven, elegant with a lovely palate structure of soft tannins and excellent palate weight.

2002 Adams Brothers Shiraz 6x75 14.5%

2002 Adams Brothers Shiraz 6x75 14.5%

Price: £90.00

Quantity:

Brothers Tim and Simon Adams, with access to top quality fruit from their respective Clare Valley and Barossa Valley locations decided to build on their close family bonds by jointly producing a wine that would sit with the very best, while still offering great value-for-money.
Both remain close to the soil though, Simon and wife Helen own the 70 year old "Dad's Block" vineyard, situated in one of the prime locations in the Barossa Valley. The gnarled, twisted vines yield a miserly 1 ton per acre - fruit of such huge intensity of flavour that has previously gone into such iconic wines as St. Hallett Old Block Shiraz, Rockford's Basket Press Shiraz and Chris Ringland's Three Rivers. This fruit forms 50% of the fruit for Adams Brothers' Shiraz.
The remaining 50% comes from the Clare Valley, specifically from Tim and Pam Adams' Sheoaks vineyard, planted in the early 1960s and in its early years its fruit was an integral component of Leasingham Bin 61. When Tim left Leasingham to set up on his own, one of his first steps was to secure the fruit from this vineyard, which has become the backbone for his world class Clare Valley Shiraz.
Both vineyards are hand-pruned and hand-picked so that only the highest quality fruit is chosen in the making of this wine.

*** This is a 6 bottle case - to make up the minimum order of 12 bottles, you will need to add another case of wine (6s or 12s) to your order.***
