August Super 12 Reds

August Super 12 Tasting Notes
ALL REDS

Three bottles each of:
Heritage Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
This is a blockbuster of a wine from an old vine, low yielding vineyard in Marananga, owned by Peter and Anita Frazer, that produces Cabernet fruit of intense richness & varietal character. The aromas are of dark chocolate and vanillin followed by mocha and spice. The full bodied palate has flavours of plums, dark chocolate, vanilla and spice, velvety smooth tannins and a finish of great length. It is drinking beautifully at the time of release and will improve in the bottle through to at least 2027.

Primo Zamberlan Cabernet Sangiovese 2017
"96 points. An 86/14% blend uses the Italian ripasso technique: newly fermented sangiovese and cabernet are pumped over dried gapes skins ex Primo Joseph Moda. Joe Grilli says '17 has produced some of the best quality fruit he has seen in years" James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion
A rich and complex wine with multiple layers of fruit, spice and subtle oak and a rich, savoury finish. The wine has incredibly intense and complex aromas: ripe dark fruits of the forest and a nutmeg spicy lift. Rich chocolate from the Ripasso process is counterbalanced with a maraschino cherry lift from the Sangiovese.
The palate is rich and full bodied with firm tannins and succulent cassis fruit notes over chocolate and tobacco leaf flavours, while the Sangiovese brings a savoury finish with cherry fruit characters. It has amazing depth and layers of flavour. It is drinking well now and will improve in the bottle for over a decade.

Robert Oatley G18 Grenache 2018
'G-18 Grenache takes this red grape and gives it a makeover. There is so much fun to be had with this wine and its red cherry theme is amazing” Matthew Jukes’ 100 Best Australian Wines
A vibrant, perfumed Grenache with classic raspberry, musk and earthy notes.
Grapes from the southern end of McLaren Vale were fermented on skins in a combination of open and closed fermenters then matured for a short period in tank prior to bottling. This is an unwooded red wine with lifted aromatics and being unwooded allows the quality of the grapes to shine through.

Innocent Bystander Yarra Valley Syrah 2016
A savory, earthy and full-bodied style of Syrah (Shiraz), this cool climate red offers ripe, brambly berries alongside bay leaf, black-pepper, damp earth and raw meat components. On the palate, soft tannins run through flavours of cherry compote and mocha. Dry to finish with a touch of spice.
