Primo Estate's Italian-style Wines

Craig writes:
I have some friends in Italy, who we visit from time to time to time. They live among the vineyards, just outside Verona, where some of the finest Italian wines are produced. They always look forward to the visit as it gives them a chance to enjoy some great wines not available in Italy.

They insist that when I visit, I must bring some of their favourite wines from Primo Estate! When I arrive with a few of bottles of Joseph Moda Amarone and Joseph d’Elena Pinot Gris, I am the most popular man in Verona!

Also, a few years ago, the winemaker of one of the top Italian Amarones, picked up a bottle of the Joseph Moda in Harvey Nichols. In no time, we had a regular order for a dozen bottles each year to be sent to Italy! But you don’t have to go to Verona, can enjoy them in the UK!

2016 Primo Estate Moda Cabernet Merlot 14.5% 6x75 210.00
"95 points. A typically lush and voluptuous expression of this Bordeaux blend with its Amarone-influenced personality. Rich and ripe cherry and blackberry, rum'n'raisin chocolate, coffee mocha and mint are all amongst the gamut of aromas and flavours, the structural tannins hardly noticeable with their softly burred edges." James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion

Since 1987, Joe Grilli has produced this exotic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot using the amarone method made famous in Italy. Fruit from the Clarendon vineyard is hung on racks and air-dried prior to crushing, creating a deep, brooding wine with great depth, balance and concentration of flavour. It will cellar beautifully for over 20 years.

2017 Primo Estate dElena Pinot Grigio 12.5% 6x75 114.00
"93 points. Pale straw-green; the quality of the grapes is immediately obvious in the quilted jacket of flavours running through the palate." James Hallidays Australian Wine Companion

The 2017 'd'Elena' is right up there with the finest Italian whites. It has the flavour, personality and individual character that makes handcrafted Pinot Grigio worth the search: a fragrant pear and nectarine style - really fresh, and distinctly floral, an attractive savoury texture and a finish of surprising length.
