Rich Aussie Shiraz meets the cherry fruit and savoury finish of Sangiovese.
Joe rates the fruit which came off his Angel Gully Vineyard (thesource of the Shiraz component in this wine) as some of the best fruit that he has seen. A blend of 85% Shiraz and 15% Sangiovese, this is a full bodied red with plum, pepper and spice characters. The Sangiovese gives a burst of refreshing cherry fruit and a savoury finish. Spicy and elegant it is a stunningwine that will improve in the bottle for at least 5 years.

The wine has vibrant magenta colour with aromatics of cherry, plum, dark berries and chocolate, complemented by the oak-derived characters of clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. The palate is full bodied with dark berry conserve flavours and balanced oak, tannin and acidity. The wine has persistent sweet fruit and oak aftertaste, with power and great finesse, and will reward patient cellaring.

Packed in specially produced presentation packs, these fabulous Italian magnum bottles are something else!. We were allocated only a small number of these fabulous magnums, so first come, first served!
1988, Joe Grilli has produced this exotic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot using the amarone method made famous in Italy. Fruit from Joe & Dina Grilli's Clarendon vineyard is hung on racks and air-dried prior to crushing, creating a deep, brooding wine with great depth, balance and concentration of flavour.
Bouquet of concentrated plum and spice intermingle with forest berry fruits raisin and cigar box notes lurking beneath the fruit. The air drying adds another dimension with richly intense notes of dried figs and prunes. Palate of subtly layered with mocha, cinnamon, vanilla and cedar streaks rippling through the palate. The considerable tannins are balanced by the lushness of flavour.
A regular in the top wines in the Oz Clarke Wine Guide, our experience of older vintages of this wine confirms that this is a sensational wine which fully reward cellaring for up to 15 years.
