February Super 12 Wines

February Super 12 Tasting Notes
Three bottles each of:
2017 Primo Estate Shale Stone Shiraz
A classic McLaren Vale Shiraz based on two outstanding vineyards - classic richness of the McMurtrie Road Vineyard in the heart of McLaren Vale is evident in this wine. However, it is the perfume and mineral texture of Shiraz grown in the shale stone of the higher altitude Angel Gully Vineyard in the subregion of Clarendon that sets it apart. The bouquet delivers red berry fruit with classic McLaren Vale spiciness. On the palate rich plum fruit and spice balances good acid and tannins with a touch of minerality. Delicious length and wonderful fruit softness.
2014 Willows Vineyard Barossa Shiraz
Probably the best value Shiraz produced in the Barossa. The Scholz family have been based at their Light Pass property for seven generations. This Shiraz has a dense, vibrant colour along with very ripe, sweet fruit, reminiscent of plum, blackberry and pepper on the nose. The palate is generous, ripe and mouth filling exhibiting berry and cinnamon spice flavours, along with oak-derived mocha overtones and harmonious, soft yet defined tannins.
2015 Eldredge 'Louie" Cabernet Sauvignon
Another great Cabernet from Leigh Eldredge's high-altitude vineyard. The colour is dark brick red with magenta hues. There are aromas of dark berry fruits with a hint of smokiness and spice. Promises offered by colour and aroma are delivered with great depth and length of fruit flavours with a spice accent that is followed by fine grain tannins and a clean finish.

2013 Tim Adams Schaefer Shiraz
This fabulous new release was crafted from specially selected grapes produced on a single vineyard originally planted in the 1960s. Twenty four months in new French oak provides perfume, spice and balance to the wine, which is dominated by aromas and flavours of dark red cherries, plums and red berries. Patient cellaring will be rewarded, with potential to improve for up to 20 years.
