November Super 12 Tasting Notes
Three bottles each of:
Willows Vineyard Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
The Willow's Cabernet vines are planted near to the banks of the North Para River, dotted by gum trees, as it winds it way through the Scholz vineyards. So, it is no surprise to find eucalyptus aromas along with the more classic cassis Cabernet characters on the nose with this wine. A well structured medium bodied wine. Fine oak tannins give length and structure, whilst the smooth blackberry fruit traits add to the wine's palate complexity.
Heritage Barossa Shiraz 2017
The wine has intense colour, showing loads of syrupy blackberry & spice on the nose. The palate is full-bodied, with toasty oak & sweet fruit in good harmony. Twelve months maturation in American oak barriques has added a subtle depth to the varietal characters. Already drinking beautifully, this wine will reward with further cellaring over the next decade.
Heirloom Barossa Shiraz 2016
This wine has an intense bright purple hue and an inkier royal red carpet colour closer to the centre of the glass. The aroma is an astonishing and lifted brace of blackberries, spice and even a perfume like touch of blueberries. Pure fruit and spice that is not in any way overwhelmed
by winemaking artifact. The wine has a concentration of aromas that come from not over-ripe fruits. There is quite a remarkable entry to the palate. A seamless soft but structured shiraz, lots of blackberries, cream and spice from the French Oak and an almost chalk like tannin structure but it's all about the pure fruit.
Primo Estate Il Briccone Shiraz Sangiovese 2016
Rich Aussie Shiraz meets the cherry fruit and savoury finish of Sangiovese. A blend of 85% Shiraz and 15% Sangiovese, this is a full bodied red with plum, pepper and spice characters. The Sangiovese gives a burst of refreshing cherry fruit and a savoury finish. Spicy and elegant it is a stunning wine that will improve in the bottle for at least 5 years.
